Site briefing

Fox Island West Wall is a small-scale wall near a rocky beach at the road end of Kamus Drive on Fox Island. The wall structure feels a bit more like a reef, with sand accumulation on the beach side and about a 10-foot/3-meter step down. There are a few sections to slowly wind through and examine all the nooks and crannies.

Arrive at the road end and park on the NORTH side of the road, ahead of the no parking signs. 3 cars can fit there. It's a road end, so parking up the area and leaving no room for emergency services to access with their equipment is a safety issue.

Getting to the beach involves walking over some boulders and about a 3' elevation difference between the road grade and the beach.

Entry and route

There are 5 mooring balls in the vicinity of the wall/reef, so using a dive flag is definitely appropriate. It's common for small motor craft to attach / beach at the road end.

Enter the water straight out from the road end (near the center buoy) and swim straight out to 50 FSW (MLLW), turn left, and follow a heading of 225 degrees. You'll come right upon it. Appears not to be current sensitive.

Reverse course back to your dive flag, collect it and it's an easy swim up the grade back to the beach. At 18 feet you'll be near some grass, and look for more critters if you do a safety stop here - pipefish, more nudis...

  • May 29, 2026 · Joe · visibility 2 m (7 ft) — Went diving with Justin and WE SWAM WITH ORCAS! Swimming out to the buoy to drop down and 2 women appear on the beach, one with a long lens on a monopod and the other with binos. They shout and point, and when we turn around, there are 3 5-6' fins 100+ yards behind us. So cool. Dived on the flood after slack, and was surprised how mellow everything was. No current, despite the predicted 11' tide. GPO den next to a midden, but nobody was home. A lot of tiny sea stars on the cobbles. Seen: Kelp Greenling, Mottled Star, Leather Star, Red Rock Crab, Eelgrass, Nudibranch, Basket Star, Plumose Anemone (Orange Variety), Brown Rockfish, Shiner Perch, Giant Spined Star, horse clam.
  • May 29, 2026 · JUSTIN · visibility 3 m (10 ft) — Great dive with Joe. Small wall/rock step down that is super easy to find and get to. Parking is a pain and it is difficult to navigate the No Parking signs.
